Question by magicka: How do you measure traffic on a website?
I am wanting to start a website, my own website, maybe I will promote different bands and stuff, but the site will be basically me, my design. I will not be selling anything or asking for anything. Basically I am wanting to move my myspace profile to it. It was starting to turn into a record label and I liked it. Many bands added me and I got very far with it. Myspace just recently changed all of the profiles to copy Facebook. So now you can’t customize anything, you can’t even change your top friends or even display what you had as top friends. They seem to be proud of it, but boy is a piece of crap. So, back to the website, how do you measure traffic on a website? Does a lot of traffic equal success for the site? Approximately how much would it cost to start and maintain one?

To Measure Traffic;
- You can use Google Analytics (do a search for it) which gives you a code to enter into your web page and will provide details of visitors, where from etc.
- Can also use Alexa.com which will show you your web page stats.

Startup Costs
- Domain name approx. -10 /yr
- Basic Hosting for website approx. -5 /month. Some hosting companies include Free domain so
shop around.

I am going to start an ebay store selling DVD’s but how do you increase your traffic besides putting some dvd’s up for auction? My goal is to sell about 1,000 DVD’s a month. Any tips or advise?

Ebay does a pretty good job of getting your store listed in the search engines it just takes a little time. The best thing you can do is optimize on keywords in your product descriptions. For tons of good info on this and other ways to generate traffic check out http://www.stellartraffic.com

Ok basically i i have a site which displays this code:

People copy and paste this script onto thier websites and my news titles are shown. I was wondering how to put a counter in the small script or seperate that would not only count how many visitors visited peoples sites but told me too somehow. (maybe it could email me the varible number when peoples pages reach over 5000 views? or anything else? maybe with mySQL? Thanx

Buying 10,000 unique visitors for 50 dollars seems like a great deal. Are most of these scams, or worthless traffic? How do I distinguish the quality companies from the bogus ones? considering that the same amount of traffic would cost thousands of dollars using pay per click ads, this seems too good to be true.

If it’s too good to be true…it is!

Any company that promises a higher Google PageRank or something similar for low cost is lying and scamming. Even if there’s a high price tag, there’s no guarantee that it’s legit. You would *always* want to research anything you would pay money for – there’s probably someone who got scammed by it. (I’ve heard that www.trafficpowersucks.com is a great example of a sneaky scam that people say Traffic Power does.)

The idea behind search engines is that you find the most relevant responses to your search…not that you find the people who paid the most for advertising on the search engine.

If you truly do want to buy more traffic, I would suggest spending money in advertising, not trying to buy internet traffic. I don’t think the (slight) chance of finding a legit company is worth the risk of the money.

I’ll list a couple websites that will probably be good reading for you if you want to pursue buying traffic. Happy hunting!

I’ve just launched a fashion website where visitors can buy clothes and view styles and trends, and my own personal fashion tumblr all in one place. I’ve been posting the link for my site on my twitter and my tumblr, yet I’m still only getting around 20-30 visitors a day. I know it will take time, but how can i get new visitors?
